Fire Detection and Extinguishing
Correct conduct in the event of fire - treating and evacuating the injured and leaving the site
In any place of a mass gathering a number of safety rules are to be followed.
Before entering – look around
Does the building appear to be in a state that enables you to feel comfortable? Is the main entrance spacious and is it open to the outdoors to enable a convenient exit?
When you enter
- Locate the accessible exits from the building. Are they clearly marked and well lit? Some of the exits can be in the front of the building and some at the back.
- Always be prepared to use the nearest exit, if you cannot use the main one.
- Ensure that the passages are sufficiently wide and are not blocked or obstructed in any way. If there are not at least two clearly marked exits, or they are blocked, report the violation to the manager.
- Leave the building if the subject is not dealt with immediately and telephone the local fire and rescue services to report it.
Do you feel safe?
Does the building appear too full/crowded? Are there fire sources such as: lighted candles, pyrotechnics or other heat sources that cause you to feel uncomfortable? Are there safety systems such as water sprinklers, fire detection systems, firefighting equipment and extinguishers? Ask yourselves if you are worried. If you are, leave immediately and report to the 102 fire and rescue service.
In an emergency
- Act immediately – if a siren is heard, or you notice smoke or fire, leave the building immediately, calmly and in an orderly manner. Use the nearest exit, even if it is not the main entrance/exit
- Get outside and stay outside – once you have left the building, stay outside and keep away from the building. This will enable others to get outside safely and will enable the firefighters to enter the building.
